I think it is important that we look back over all the work that has been done over the last two years and the progress the club has made in not only the new facility but also the development of our coaches and players.
It’s really only when you see the facility through the eyes of the visitors to our pitch that you realize what a truly fantastic pitch it is. It is worth every penny of the €600,000 plus that it cost, and we were so lucky to receive the donation of the carpet from Mr. James Mc Ardle and the Grants from Sports Capital and Leader. We should also thank community Finance Ireland for their trust and support in giving us a loan of €200,000 to complete the project.
Of course now we need to work on paying it back, and with €51,640 in payments due in 2021 it means the cost of running the club this year will be around €120,000, which is a huge sum of money. The finance and executive committees are both working hard to insure we are able to meet our commitments, and we are confident we can do so with the continued support of all our members.
Sole Sports who build the pitch for us have also been engaged to complete our third (grass training pitch) to the right hand side of the all-weather, which they hope to complete in June, (weather permitting), which means it should be available to play on from September onwards.
Coach and Player development
The football committee have put a huge effort into our coach education with courses by Tony O Neill from Shamrock Rovers as well as Pat Behan from the FAI.
They have also started specific training for our goalkeepers, from under 12 upwards, on Tuesday evenings and are working on extending this to all age groups. The committee have invited Pat Behan to put on a special course for our coaches re goalkeeper training which they can incorporate into their training sessions.
We are well aware that all these courses require more time and effort from the coaches, who already put in such a huge amount of work, however it all helps the club develop to be stronger, and we have no doubt that it won’t be long before we see the players enjoy the benefit on the pitch as well.
The club has a number of summer camps this year, which are already well supported,
Ciaran Kilduff camp from 12th to 16th of July
FAI summer camp from 19th to 23rd July
Shamrock Rovers Girls only camp from 2nd to 6th August
And in addition the club has been chosen as one of only 30 clubs in the country and the only one in Kildare, to host the Disney UEFA club for girls aged 5 to 8 years later this year. We will let everyone know when the dates have been confirmed. This again is a huge endorsement for the club and what we are trying to achieve.
Membership continues to grow in all age groups, which is fantastic to see, but will create more challenges for the club, re insuring we have enough coaches in place to accommodate all the new players and teams, and also to insure we have enough training slots on the pitches for all the teams.
It’s been fantastic to see the huge numbers we are getting in the academy, hosted by Ciaran Kilduff and his team. They are brilliant with the children and are a huge endorsement of the ethos of Kilcock Celtic, where everyone is welcome, no matter what level of ability.
We should also mention the progress with the girls/ladies side of the club, which has grown from a handful of girls three years ago to over 100 female members at present and growing fast. We hope to establish ourselves as the main club for girl’s football in Kildare, a goal which we are well on our way to achieving, so a big thank you to all involved in making it happen.
We welcome anybody who is interested in getting involved with helping out in the club, either on the coaching team or by joining any of the committees. Every coach will tell you how rewarding it is to work with the young players and see them grow and develop their skills, whilst enjoying playing in a team environment and making loads of friends.
So please contact Shane Thompson who is our liaison officer on 087 9068239 after 7pm any evening if you are interested in getting involved.
The future is very bright for Kilcock Celtic, especially if we continue to work together to achieve our goals like we have been to date. We need to continue to keep the focus on the players and insure first and foremost that they are enjoying playing soccer with us, and do all we can to help them develop their skills further.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
