Kilcock Celtic overcame a very good Knocklyon United side winning 3-0 in the Bawnogues on Sunday morning. The visitors started brightly with their wing backs causing problems early on for the Celts. However, on the break Kilcock were looking very dangerous with Mike Brown and Matty Harris getting in behind Knocklyon’s back three. Kilcock had the ball in the net after Mike Brown picked out Harris at the back post but the goal was chalked off for offside. The South Dublin side came closest to opening the scoring when their free kick just whistled past the post. After even opening exchanges, the hosts began to take control of proceedings and finally made the breakthrough just before half time. Conor Lawless picked out Kevin Smith with a fantastic switch who played a one two with Harris, cut in on his right and found the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to the Celts at half time.

Kilcock made two changes at the break with Cormac Browne and Lee Casey coming on for Daniel Gilbert and Dylan Bradley. The second half started the same as the first half ended with Kilcock applying pressure looking the more likely to score. The Kildare side again were creating chances with Harris, Brown, and Eoin Hannigan all having opportunities to double the lead. The second goal was looking elusive until Josh Sherlock got on the end of a Shane O’Rourke cross to make it 2-0 to the Celts. Knocklyon kept going, and looked set to get a goal back only for a fantastic last-ditch tackle from Conor Lawless. The visitors went close again, hitting the post from another free kick from 25 yards out. Kilcock made further changes late on with Ben Kelly, Caolin O’Rourke, and Jack Foley replacing Daragh McArdle, Eoin Hannigan and Shane O’Rourke. In the final quarter, the game became stretched and was end to end with both teams pushing for a goal. Kilcock finally got the icing on the cake in the 90th minute as they trebled their lead, after Mike Brown latched onto a loose ball, rounded the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net as the hosts ran out 3-0 winners.
