Kilcock Celtic welcomed league leaders Peamount United FC in what was a tight affair in the Bawnogues. The Celts started the brighter of the two teams with Mike Brown and Eoin Hannigan coming the closest to opening the scoring but both chances were off target. The breakthrough finally came in the 36th minute when Mike Brown hit a shot from 25 yards out past the Peamount goalkeeper into the bottom left corner.
Kilcock continued to apply pressure with the tireless Conor Lawless winning a lot of ball in the middle of the park but a resolute and dogged Peamount side were able to withstand most of what was thrown at them. Cian Ward was called into action late into the half, making a fantastic save to tip a long range effort onto the bar to maintain Kilcock's lead going into half time.
The second half picked up where they left off with Kilcock controlling the game but not creating clear cut opportunities. The Celts had a huge chance to score to double their lead but the visiting keeper was equal to Hannigans effort. Midway through the second half, the momentum of the game began to change in Peamount's favour and Kilcock found themselves on the back foot. Peamount applied pressure, going direct at times to try find a way through the Celts rearguard but Kilcock held firm with Daragh McArdle and Dylan Bradley marshalling the back four excellently.
However, the Kildare's side defensive line was breached late on when the Peamount full back played a hopeful cross which fell to the Peamount striker who made no mistake, placing the ball past Ward to level the game.
Kilcock rallied late on to try and find a winner with Mike Brown once again coming close but for a last ditch tackle from the Peamount defender to keep the score at one a piece. In the final minute of the game the Celts were awarded a free kick inside Peamount's half after a foul on a Kilcock player. From the resulting free kick, Peamount defended effectively and initiated their own counter attack in order to try and secure all three points but a strike from long range was dealt easily by Cian Ward. 1-1 was the final score in the Bawnogues on Friday night.
