The Leinster Senior League Saturday team played in the Tom Carroll Cup on Saturday afternoon against an experienced Oliver Bond Celtic side in what was an exciting cup tie in the Bawnogues. The Celts started the first half on the front foot getting the ball down and playing some great football with Eoin Keogh pulling strings in the centre of midfield but the Oliver Bond backline defended resolutely. As the first half progressed, the Dublin side grew into the game but like Kilcock were unable to create anything clear cut with the game remaining a stalemate at half time.

It was the second half when the game really opened up. Oliver Bond Celtic started the second half as they had finished the first, on the front foot and looking for an opening which they got in the 47th minute when they scored to make 0-1. Oliver Bond weren’t finished there however and just over 10 minutes later had doubled their lead to 0-2 with the game slipping further beyond Kilcock. That was until the returning Shane Fitzgerald scored 3 minutes later to pull one back for the Celts and keep their hopes in the Tom Carroll Cup alive. The goal changed the momentum of the match and The Celts started to apply more and more pressure and just over 5 minutes later Kilcock had levelled with once again Shane Fitzgerald on the scoresheet. From here on in, it was all Kilcock looking to find the winner that would send them into the last 16 of the Tom Carroll Cup. That pressure paid off when with just over 10 minutes to go, Alaba Yusuf nicked the ball from the opposing full back and his attempted cross was fortuitously put into the net by the Oliver Bond centre back to make the game 3-2 to Kilcock. It was at this stage Kilcock felt they had one foot in the next round but Oliver Bond were still well in the game and came close on a couple of occasions to levelling the game once again. However the game was well and thoroughly sealed with just five minutes to go when Calvin Flanagan scored to double the Celts lead and all but ensure a safe passage into the next round of the prestigious Tom Carroll cup. In the dying embers of the game Kilcock almost added a third but some classy defending by Oliver Bond kept the score 4-2 and that was what the game ultimately finished. A great cup tie in the Bawnogues for the Celts and neutrals. Next Saturday both teams will have to do it all over again as Kilcock welcome Oliver Bond once again to the Bawnogues in the league.
