Kilcock were at home to Rathcoole on Monday evening in the Eastern Women's Football League. Kilcock settled early and dominated play from the kick off. Alanna Fagan Mangan hit the back of the net within 5 minutes to put Kilcock ahead. This was followed by a 15th minute goal from Leona Pozgaj with a great shot from outside the box leaving the Rathcoole keeper with no chance of saving. Again, 3 minutes later Leona Pozgaj hit the back of the Rathcoole net from an excellent corner. In the 28th minute Laney Kennedy hit the right post and despite Alanna’s great follow through the ball went wide. The Rathcoole goalkeeper saved a shot from Alanna in the 35th minute. Rathcoole started to apply some pressure, however Kilcock defended very well and in the 43rd minute Leona hit another great shot which came off the right post, Sharon Nolan was on hand to slot the rebound into the back of the net. The score at half time was 4- 0 to Kilcock.
Kilcock started strongly in the second half and within 4 minutes, Leona had a shot just over the bar and she then hit the post in the 53rd minute of the game. Rathcoole started to exert some pressure on the Kilcock defence however they held out and in the 71st minute Laney Kennedy shot on target hit the back of the net. Alanna hit her second goal of the game in the 83rd minute of the game and Leona hit the target in the 89th minute to complete her hattrick. The game finished 7–0 to Kilcock.
Commiserations to Rathcoole in their first year in the EWFL league, they continued to fight hard right through to the final whistle. Congratulations to the Kilcock Women on a great team effort. Our next league game is away to Glen Magic in Green Hills, Drogheda on Monday 29 May.
