Kilcock were away to Glen Magic F.C. of Drogheda on Monday evening in an Eastern Women's Football League Division 3 clash. This was Glen Magic’s first game at home and they got off to a fast start and had the ball in the back of the Kilcock net within 3 minutes. Kilcock began to settle, and Leona Pozgaj had a shot just wide of Glen Magic’s goal in the 7th minute. Shortly after Glen Magic had the ball in the back of the Kilcock net once again, this was against the run of play however. Kilcock started to put more pressure on the Glen Magic defence and Alanna Fagan Mangan had a shot just over the bar in the 20th minute, 2 minutes later Kilcock were rewarded with a penalty and Leona slotted it into the left corner of the net to bring the score back to 2–1 to Glen Magic. Kilcock continued to dominate but had a number of offsides which helped relieve the pressure for Glen Magic. 30 minutes in, Alanna raced ahead of the Glen Magic defence to score from a high ball in from Leona, bringing the game back level (2–2). Sally O’Reilly then had a great attempt on goal saved by the Glen Magic keeper. The sides went in level at half time.
Eleven minutes into the second half Leona had another shot on target but the goalkeeper made another great save. Kilcock went ahead in the 62nd minute, with a goal slotted in by Ashley Nwaokorie at the back post (2-3). Kilcock had a number of corners, offsides and shots on goal, but were unable to get that elusive fourth goal. They continued to dominate despite the best efforts of the Glen Magic team who never gave up and their fast forwards kept our defence on alert right to the final whistle.
Commiserations to Glen Magic who are in their first year in the EWFL league, Kilcock will meet them again at home on June 19th.
