Our Kilcock Celtic o35s took on Celbridge Town in the KDFL Masters Cup this evening at the Bawnogues. This was a game where the home team were going to have to raise their level of performance to have any chance against the league leaders from the top tier and they didn’t disappoint as they put in a gritty backs to the wall display. Under pressure from the start Kilcock had to be very strong in defence and needed their goalkeeper Derek Devoy to be on top form. They were rewarded for their resilience when they counterattacked and midfielder Sudeshan Moodley spotted the Celbridge keeper off his line to score a stunning goal from the half way line.
Celbridge continued to attack and would eventually equalise midway through the second half with a scrappy goal as fatigue set in for the home team. A draw was a fair result over the 70 minutes and it meant that the game would go straight to penalties. It was still difficult to separate the two teams in the shoot out but there was to be icing on the cake for Kilcock Celtic as birthday boy Robert Gonia scored the winning goal and the Celts ran out 8-7 winners to head to the next round.
