The game started with an early chance for Knocklyon that was well blocked by Shona McDonagh in centre half. The Celts found their feet quite quickly with some strong passing leading to their first chance of the game, a blocked shot by Alanna Fagan Mangan. The positive start from Kilcock led to the first goal in the first minute. Edie Carey with the diagonal pass through Knocklyons centre backs to Leona Pozgaj who ran through 1v1 before slotting into the bottom left corner. Kilcock continued to create chances exerting pressure on the Knocklyon defence. Several crosses led to no second goal unfortunately for the Celts. The next big chance that fell to Kilcock was for Laney Kennedy who played a great one two with Leona with the shot just wide of target on this occasion. Goalkeeper Rachel Fagan was called into action on the 25 minute mark where she saved a free kick from distance. Strong defensive play from Kilcock allowed them to quickly switch from defensive play into attack. Leona and Lainey broke down the right wing with a cross clipping the back post. The ball broke to Edie Carey who set up Anke Bross from distance forcing a save from the Knocklyon keeper. A strike from Sally 'Reilly hit the post after a ball broke up the right wing unfortunately the rebound off the woodwork didn't fall in the Celts favour. The Knocklyon defence under a long spell of pressure eventually conceded a second goal. Goalkeeper Rachel Fagan taking the alternative route with a kickout straight through the middle of the pitch put Leona through again and she finished into the right corner this time. The third goal for Kilcock came within a minute. Hazel Fitzpatrick played into Sally O'Reilly who played a first time pass through the defence for Leona who finished her hatrick off by calmly slotting the ball past the goal keeper right on the halftime whistle.
Second half was the reverse of the first with some early chances for Susann Eaton and Sharon Nolan both created by Sharon Reilly. As always, Knocklyon came back fighting. The game started to swing in their favour. Two big saves from Rachel Fagan and a block from centre back Maren Murphy were a sign of things to come. On 72 minutes, Knocklyon pulled a goal back. After an initial block, a follow up and a save, Knocklyon finished from the penalty spot into the roof of the net. Kilcock regained composure and took hold of the game again in the final stages where either team could have scored again. 7 wins in 8 in the league. An unbelievable team effort throughout the season, keeps our position as second in the league. We'd like to wish Knocklyon the best in the rest of the league
