Kilcock were back in action on Wednesday evening in an EWFL League 3 clash against Liffeybank.

Both teams started nervously, however Liffeybank were the first to settle. Laura Geoghegan in goals pulled off two saves for Kilcock before Liffeybank put the ball in the back of the Kilcock net within 11 minutes of kick-off. Both teams then settled with Liffeybank the more dominant team, however Kilcock had a good amount of possession to put some pressure on the Liffeybank defence. Kilcock’s passing was off on the night and this allowed Liffeybank to continue to pressurise the Kilcock defence and they scored a 2nd goal in the 39th minute, a 3rd goal in the 41st minute and a 4th goal in the 44th minute.

Kilcock regrouped in the second half and created some nice passages of play, however Liffeybank held their defensive line very well, making it difficult to break, they exerted a lot of pressure on our play maker Leona Pozgaj ensuring she was surrounded by 2 or 3 players at any one time. This created more space for Anke Bross and she began to threaten Liffeybank. Both team’s had some good passages of play, but Liffeybank had more success and Edie Carey in goal pulled off a number of saves to keep the scoreline down. Due to continued pressure Kilcock conceded a penalty in the 69th minute of the game resulting in a 5th goal for Liffeybank. Kilcock continued under-pressure and conceded two further goals in the 77th and 80th minute. Leona Pozgaj has a shot just wide after lobbing the Liffeybank keeper from the halfway line. Kilcock persevered through to the end in what was a disappointing game and Edie Carey continued to pull off a number of further saves up to the final whistle. Final score: 7 – 0 to Liffeybank.

Congratulations to Liffeybank on a great win, this places them top of the league 3. We wish them the very best for the rest of the season. This is Kilcock’s second loss of the league, placing them in third position with a game in hand, so there is still much to play for. We will regroup and play Enniskerry, who are second in the league on Wednesday 9th August at the Bawnogues.
